ABOUT US

The Wellness Industrial Complex is broken.

For too long, herbalism and botanical care have been co-opted by a luxury market that prioritizes aesthetics over accessibility. Health is not a vibe, and care is not a commodity reserved for the wealthy.

The People’s Formulary (TPF) was founded on a simple, radical premise: the knowledge of the earth belongs to the people who inhabit it.

We reject the gatekeeping of "guru" culture. We reject the markup of elitism.

We are here to dismantle the barriers between you and the botanical support you need.

We operate at the intersection of material science and social justice. This is not about magic; it is about the rigorous application of botany to support the human body within the crushing weight of late-stage capitalism.

The Operators

TPF is steered by Christopher A. Freeman (He/They) and Alexander C. Hoyt (He/Him).

Christopher is Queer in gender and sexuality, a queer theorist, artist, and researcher currently based in Upstate New York. Their work is grounded in the belief that systems, whether biological, ecological, or economic, must be understood to be navigated. He is currently completing their degree in Business, Management, and Economics at SUNY Empire, with a focus on Small Business, alongside formal studies in herbalism and plant medicine. They do not claim the title of "Master" or "Guru." He is a student of the soil and a critic of the system. Their role is that of a compounder and a librarian: he researches the history, he sources the materials, and he formulates the blends so that you have the tools to tend to your own existence.

Alexander is a gay man, a scientist, and a researcher, also based in Upstate New York. His work has taken him all over the world, exploring culture, food, and chemistry. He has a bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science & Sustainability from Nazerith University, and continues his studies in Mandarin and Chinese culture. He lends a formal scientific approach to the products and blends, with a passion for sustainability and economic accessibility. His role is to verify Christopher’s formulae with academic rigor and to ensure the ethical sourcing of the ingredients.

The Pillars of the Formulary

1. Radical Transparency You have a right to know what you are consuming. We do not hide behind "proprietary blends." Every ingredient is listed, and every source is vetted. If we cannot verify the ethical labor practices behind a plant, we do not stock it.

2. Queer & Intersectional We are proudly Queer-owned and operated. We view our work through an intersectional lens, recognizing that health struggles are often compounded by systemic oppression. Our space is explicitly safe for the marginalized, the divergent, and the dissidents.

3. Material Accessibility We strive to keep our overhead low so our prices remain accessible. We prioritize simple, sustainable packaging over unboxing "experiences" that generate waste and drive up costs. You are paying for the medicine, not the marketing.

The "No-Fluff" Guarantee

Our Standards List:

  • No metaphysical up-charges.

  • No cultural appropriation.

  • No anti-science rhetoric.

  • Full ingredient transparency.
